Briquettes

Energy from waste wood

Waste off cuts and shavings from our saw mill, and that of other local saw mills, are set aside for use in the briquette maker.  Here it is dried and pulverised before being forced under high pressure into moulds which bond the particles into rectangular wood briquettes. ( size approx 150mm x 90mm x 60mm )  There are no additives and no chemical binders; just pure virgin wood.  They produce proper flames, a great deal of heat and a pleasant wood burning smell as they are burnt.

Efficient burning

Wood briquettes are both dry (approx. 10% moisture content compared to 25-40% in logs) and compact.  This gives them a high heat output (calorific value) in relation to their size.

Easy to store and use

Our regular shaped briquettes are clean and easy to stack and store.  They take up less than half the space of logs and need no splitting.  They have a high heat output, approximately twice that of logs, and can be used on all wood burning and solid fuel appliances and open fires.

Frequently Asked Questions - Briquettes

What are briquettes?
Briquettes are a sustainable, high heat density, biomass fuel made from pure wood waste created by the timber industry.

What are the environmental benefits?
Trees take CO2 from the atmosphere during their whole life. This CO2 is released when the trees are burnt or during natural decay. Even though carbon is produced in the processing of timber and the manufacture and delivery of briquettes (embedded carbon), there is an estimated net reduction in CO2 emissions of more than 90% compared with fossil fuels.

Can I burn briquettes in my open fire or wood burner?
Yes, briquettes can be used on all open fires, wood and solid fuel appliances.

What are the benefits of briquettes over logs?
Our regular shaped briquettes are clean and easy to stack and store.  They take up less than half the space of logs and need no splitting.  They have a high heat output, approximately twice that of logs.

How can I order briquettes?
By telephone    01726 890561                By email info@cornishwoodfuels.co.uk
Deliveries can be made in 10 kg bags on one tonne or half tonne pallets. Smaller quantities are available for collection.

How much space do briquettes take up?
Because briquettes are a regular shape and very compact, they take up less than half the space of logs.

Can I store briquettes outside?
Although packaged in plastic, briquettes should be stored in a dry environment. This could be a woodshed, so long as it is dry and sheltered from the rain.

How secure is the fuel supply?
Our briquettes are made from waste wood from well managed local woodlands.  Because it is locally sourced, the supply is more secure and less vulnerable to the global economy than imported fossil fuels. Unlike fossil fuels, briquettes are a renewable fuel source and wood is in plentiful supply.
