Logs & Kindling

Seasoned hardwood and softwood logs

` We have hardwood and softwood logs sourced from local, well managed woodlands.  The wood that we use is either from thinning (removing some trees where they are densely spaced to allow neighbouring trees to flourish) or coppicing (cutting back a tree to its base allowing it to regenerate new vigorous shoots).

Logs used for firewood should be well seasoned otherwise much of the energy is used evaporating moisture from the wood rather than delivering heat into your room.  Burning unseasoned wood causes deposits on your chimney that can result in chimney fires.

Our logs are sawn and split to a convenient size.  We supply them seasoned for immediate use or unseasoned for you to stack and air dry.

Hardwood logs are from deciduous trees.  The wood is dense and burns more slowly.  Softwood logs are from conifers.  They burn more quickly, with a brighter flame.

They are delivered in convenient 2 cubic metre crates (approximately the size of a large freezer) or large nets.

Kindling

Dry softwood kindling sticks for lighting fires.  Sold in large and small bags

Frequently Asked Questions – Logs and kindling

Where do your logs come from?
Our logs are sourced from local, well managed woodlands.  The wood that we use is either from thinning (removing some trees where they are densely spaced to allow neighbouring trees to flourish) or coppicing (cutting back a tree to its base allowing it to regenerate new vigorous shoots).

Are your logs seasoned?
All our logs are sawn and split to a convenient size.  We supply them either seasoned for immediate use or unseasoned for you to stack and air dry. Unseasoned logs are cheaper as you are providing the storage space.

What is the difference between hardwood and softwood logs?
Hardwood logs are from deciduous trees.  The wood is dense and burns more slowly and they are more expensive.  Softwood logs are from conifers.  They burn more quickly, with a brighter flame and are cheaper.

What are the environmental benefits?
Trees take CO2 from the atmosphere during their whole life. This CO2 is released when the trees are burnt or during natural decay. Even though carbon is produced in the processing of timber and the delivery of logs and kindling (embedded carbon), there is an estimated net reduction in CO2 emissions of more than 95% compared with fossil fuels.

Can I store logs outside?
Logs need to be seasoned to reduce the moisture content.  They should be stored in a well ventilated woodshed that it is dry and sheltered from the rain.

How can I order logs and kindling?
By telephone    01726 890561                By email info@cornishwoodland.co.uk

How are logs and kindling delivered?
We only make local deliveries of logs and kindling because we think it is senseless to shift it long distances when it is readily available across the country.  Logs are delivered in 2 cubic metre crates (about the size of a large freezer) or 1 cubic metre netted on pallets (about the size of a small fridge). We can stack your wood for an additional hourly charge.  Please ask us for details.

Kindling is delivered in pallets or 1/2 pallets
