Wood Pellets | Benefits | FAQs
Wood pellet stoves and boilers have been used for many decades in Europe and overseas including places as far north as the Arctic Circle. Many different reliable and well tested systems are now available in the UK. Wood pellets should be used in stoves, ranges and boilers with a specially designed pellet burning head. Although they can be used in regular solid fuel stoves, ranges or boilers, this is not a cost effective option. However, some systems do allow you to burn both wood pellets and logs or briquettes.
Convenient and easy to use
Modern pellet burning systems are extremely fuel efficient (in excess of 90% efficiency) and all have some sort of storage hopper that feeds pellets automatically to the pellet head. They have automatic ignition, cleaning and ash collection. The systems are responsive and controllable and provide much the same level of convenience as oil fuelled systems with the benefits of knowing you are heating your home in an environmentally responsible way using a low carbon fuel.
Types of systems |
|
Small stove |
Used to heat a single room, usually between 3 – 12 KW output. The systems combine the style and comfort of a solid fuel stove with incredible convenience and cleanliness. |
Medium stove with back boiler |
Acts as an attractive space heater with the added option of a back boiler to supply hot water and/or radiators. Up to about 25KW output. |
Range cooker |
Range cookers can have the added option of a back boiler to supply hot water and/or radiators. Up to about ?? KW output. |
Domestic boilers |
Fully automated and adjustable central heating and hot water systems. Usually between 15 KW to 150 KW output to heat both large and small homes. Can be used as part of an integrated sustainable energy system including solar and wind power. |
Commercial boilers |
Large, efficient, automated and controllable systems with up to 2MW output for the largest commercial applications. |
