FAQs

Wood pellets - clean and convenientOther Wood pellet pages:
Wood Pellets | Benefits | Boilers

What are wood pellets?
Wood pellets are a sustainable, high heat density, biomass fuel made from pure wood waste created by the timber industry.

How cost effective are wood pellets?
Wood pellets can bring automated, low cost and convenient wood heating into the home. It is one of the most cost effective fuels; kilowatt for kilowatt, cheaper than oil, electricity, LPG and coal.

What are the environmental benefits?
Trees take CO2 from the atmosphere during their whole life. This CO2 is released when the trees are burnt or during natural decay. Even though carbon is produced in the processing of timber and the manufacture and delivery of wood pellets (embedded carbon), there is an estimated net reduction in CO2 emissions of more than 90% compared with fossil fuels.

Can I burn wood pellets in my open fire or wood burner?
Wood pellets should be burnt in high efficiency, automated wood pellet appliances.  Although you can burn them on open fires and wood burners, briquettes and logs are more cost effective.

What are the benefits of wood pellets for home heating?
Wood pellets systems are convenient, easy to use, efficient and cost effective.  They are a clean burning, low carbon and secure renewable energy source.

How can I order wood pellets?
By telephone    01726 890561                By email info@cornishwoodland.co.uk
Deliveries can be made in 10 kg bags, one tonne dumpy sacks or be blown directly into your storage tank.

How much space do wood pellets take up?
1 tonne of wood pellets takes up about 1.6 cubic metres of space. 3 tonnes of wood pellets is the approximate energy equivalent of 1000 litres of domestic kerosene oil.

Can I store sacks of wood pellets outside?
No, wood pellets must be stored in a dry environment. Sealed storage tanks/silos can be built outside for bulk storage.

What are the benefits of wood fuel pellets over wood chip?
Wood chip is about 4 times bulkier than pellets and is only really a viable alternative in properties with a very large outside storage area. Because of their irregular shape, wood chips do not ‘flow’ as easily as pellets and they have a higher ash content, so the systems tend to be less automated. We are able to supply wood chip, please contact us for information and prices.

How secure is the fuel supply?
Our wood pellets are made from waste wood from well managed local woodlands.  Because it is locally sourced, the supply is more secure and less vulnerable to the global economy than imported fossil fuels. Unlike fossil fuels, wood pellets are a renewable fuel source and wood is in plentiful supply.
